Re: Great ACC?

Last time I checked there were 114 teams in D1 with 20 wins. I could barely stand to watch my own team this year and they won 20 games with a top 3 schedule, it doesnt really mean much.

You said they were the best conference, so if they are the best conference then why are they only going to have 1 team in the top 16 at years end. Sounds like alot of mediocre basketball to me. The pac 10 and SEC are putting 3 teams in the sweet 16 each. If youre one of the strongest conferences, it only makes sense to back it up when it comes time that the games actually mean something.

Sure the ACC is just fine and dandy at the big 10/acc challenge. Most teams play for March madness not November madness. That BIG win against Iowa will go down in history next to man landing on the moon.

Re: Great ACC?

for God's sake people when comparing conferences you have to look at the whole conference...the ACC won 80% of it's games, which no other conference did, it placed 7 teams in the tournament which no other conference did, the tournament is all about matchups as far as who gets put out when...thats logic is a big bunch of BS and is so flawed it's not worth arguing against

Getting there is all that matters, actually winning is meaningless.

[ QUOTE ]
Kansas won the national title when the Big 12 was weak as water. UCLA did the same when the Pac-10 was so-so (Arizona had started the decline, Oregon was only decent). To say that a conference is the strongest because one of its schools wins the title is ludricous. So since Nebraska won National football titles, the Big 12-NOT THE SEC was the best in the land? Miami-Big East the strongest? USC-Pac 10? etc. I thought it was widely regarded that the SEC was the strongest football conference in the land You get my drift.

[/ QUOTE ]

Oklahoma was in the national title game with Kansas and Kanssas State was an elite 8 team. The Big 12 was the superior conference, you had King, Blaylock, and Grant, Danny Manning, and Mitch Richmond. Not to mention Missouri was as consistent as ever in those years.

Arizona didnt decline at that time, they lost in the first round that year basically as a result of a messy situation between Damon Stoudamire and the NCAA. A year later they were in the sweet 16 and the next year they won a national title. Oregon wasnt good at that time, not really sure where you got Oregon, but Stanford was good as was Arizona State.

Re: Great ACC?

then why are you on here arguing then. Shouldnt you be over on rivals studying all of the 3 star recruits that VT is getting?

Sure its all about matchups, but for a conference thats so superior which you said they were, then out of 7 matchups, how come they only won 1 matchup? Thats pretty pathetic. I told you there was 1 excellent team and I find it funny thats the only team left. You might want to admit that the SEC and Pac 10 are pretty equal. Who was the only team to beat UVA at home this year? Stanford, the 6th team in the pac 10. I promise you, Washington is alot better than the bottom 3 in your conference. Remember this, the pac 10 put 6 in but there are only 10 in the conference. Thats a better ratio than 7 out of 12. Boy those matchups sure hurt the pac 10. How was little ol Southern Cal gonna stop Kevin Durant. You might as well go kill yourself if the trojans knock off Carolina.

Re: Great ACC?

Both conferences (Big 12/Pac-10) were "top-heavy", something that folks on here have accused the ACC of being over the years.
What have the Colorados, Oregon States..etc consistantly accomplished?
If you have a league that has 12 teams, and 3-4 are good, does that make the league strong? Compare that to this year's ACC, which sent 7. Good debate though. The forum needs more of this.

Re: Great ACC?

This is in reply to Vthokie22, You said having a national champion in your conference doesnt matter? well having 10 teams win 20 games dont mean [censored] since the ACC has 1 team in the sweet sixteen. The point about Florida is that having the national champion in your conference helps it doesnt mean everything but its another reason the SEC is better.
